about
A rerecording of an old song I wrote for Burnt Toast way back when. In 2008, I thought I'd reimagine all my Toast songs one by one.
I got exactly this far.
Brandon Trammel says it sounds like a mix of Ned's Atomic Dustbin and The Lemonheads. That's good enough for me.
Written by a 17 year old version of me whose high school crush came back to school after an extended illness with a new found love for Jesus... and her youth pastor.
Enjoy!
lyrics
Goin swimming in my concrete shoes.
You're talkin to me but it's just old news.
Now you're saying that I missed the boat,
And I'm wondering how long can I float?
I'm walking down the street, falling through the floor,
sliding down a tube and opening up a door.
Now I'm in a room, but I don't see you here.
As a matter of fact, don't think you're even near.
Breathe in the clouds while you fly through the air.
I'm sitting on a rock wishing I was way up there.
Hello, I know you! Do you remember me?
I'm the guy you left bobbing in the sea.
The water is so cold. The sky is getting dark.
Here in the water, I think I see a shark.
A long time ago in a galaxy far away
you loved a boy like me, but now he's old and gray.
So figure this out, if you've got the time.
I'm sticking metaphors in each and every rhyme.
